ENGL 102 P OETRY E SSAY , T HESIS , AND O UTLINE I NSTRUCTIONS In Module/Week 5, you will write a 750-words (about 3–4-pages) essay that analyzes one poem from the Poetry Unit. Before you begin writing the essay, carefully read the guidelines for developing your paper topic that are given below. Review the Poetry Essay Grading Rubric to see how your submission will be graded. Gather all of your information, plan the direction of your essay, and organize your ideas by developing a one-page thesis statement and outline for your essay, as you did for your Fiction Essay. Format the thesis statement and the outline in a single Word document using MLA, APA, or Turabian style (whichever corresponds to your degree program). You have the opportunity to submit the thesis and outline by the end of Module/Week 4 for instructor feedback. Continues the work of Composition I; includes the preparation of a research paper from library sources.  Nature and Purpose: English 102 should be regarded principally as a writing course. As such, the course is intended as a complement to English 101. Writing skills used in the first course should be augmented and further refined in the second. The research paper should be a major part of the course and should demonstrate a diversity of writing skills. The short stories, poetry, and drama taught in English 102 should be used to generate topics and to serve as material for student essays and research. General Requirements Five essays, including a research paper, will be assigned during the quarter. You should turn in your paper in class on time.
