Exam Overview AP WORLD HISTORY EXAM: 3 HOURS AND 5 MINUTES The AP World History Exam questions measure students' knowledge of world history and their ability to think historically. Questions are based on key and supporting concepts, course themes, and historical thinking skills. Exam questions represent various geographical regions, with no more than 20 percent of the multiple-choice questions focusing solely on Europe. Format of Assessment Section I: Multiple Choice: 70 Questions | 55 Minutes | 50% of Exam Score Discrete items with an occasional set of two items Historical source material, such as images, charts, maps, and text-based passages, may be included in some items. Section II: Free Response: 3 Questions | 130 Minutes | 50% of Exam Score Document-Based Question (DBQ) (50 minutes, including a 10-minute reading period) Change-over-time question (40 minutes) Comparative essay (40 minutes) Each question in this section is weighted equally Multiple-Choice Questions For sample multiple-choice questions, refer to the Course and Exam Description. How to Use These Resources One thing to note right off the bat is that some of these resources are official – straight from College Board. For example, the free-response questions are actual old AP test questions. We also have a set of multiple-choice questions from College Board. However, most of the resources come from other places. The multiple-choice questions we link to come from two main places – textbook websites and study websites. While these resources are high quality, they won’t be exactly like the AP test. Some questions are easier; some are much harder. Some sections have true/false questions mixed in with multiple-choice while the AP test has only multiple-choice questions. Unofficial resources can be very helpful for studying, but make sure you use official resources throughout your test preparation to get the most accurate feedback on your progress.  Multiple-Choice Practice Quizzes The multiple-choice quizzes we found are from two broad categories: study websites and textbook websites. Many of the quizzes from study websites are organized by AP theme and time period and contain mixed geographic areas, so these would be good unit review resources throughout the year and will also be helpful as you ramp up your studying for the exam in the spring.
