need help writing thesis statement for bullying

This is a good question and an important topic. Let me give you a few thoughts to help you.  Part of the reason essays are difficult is because people do not have a clear thesis statement. Without a thesis, you will not write a coherent paper. All of this begs the question - what is a thesis? A thesis is a debatable point that will govern your paper. For example, your thesis might be: bullying is rising in our school. Some would agree, others will disagree. Another possible thesis is: cyber bullying is the most powerful form of bullying. Again this is a debatable topic; some will agree and others will disagree. In light of this point, think about a thesis. I really like research papers on cyber-bullying. You can talk about Facebook, emails, twitter, and instagram.  After you choose a thesis, make sure that you have a few points that will prove your thesis or make your thesis cogent to your readers. That is where you will need to do some research. A basic google search (perhaps for news results) is the place to start. For scholarly articles, try your school's databases or Google Scholar. There are lots of resources out there. Good luck. .
Do you mean a statement for developing a master's or doctoral thesis, or do you mean stating the thesis of a regular paper for a class? In either case, you really need to understand the subject matter you are discussing first.  Then you  may be able to formulate a particular perspective or testable hypothesis that you want to follow up.  Teachers are not excited about papers that just appear to be a person's thoughts off the top of their heads or from reading news blogs.  They respect what you write--and grade well--when you show you know the subject matter.  Then when you come up with a thesis, it is well-founded.  Look up books and research articles on the subject.  If you are in an education class, then look in the education research literature, if sociology then look in the sociological literature, etc. Here are good places to look in your school or college library:Look under bullying in library catalog for books.Look in ERIC database or Education Source database for education, and Sociological Abstracts or Annual Review of Sociology for sociology. All of these sources will list lots of materials on bullying.  Get help from the librarian if you don't know where to find them.  Once you find these sources, you should see a lot of information on your topic brought together in one place, and be able to read a lot about the subject in an hour or two.  NOW you will be able to formulate your own thesis, and your teacher will see that you have  studied and thought about this.
The Guiding Idea and Argumentative Thesis Statement: How are they different? How are they used? was written by Rhonda Dietrich. Two Types of Essays Your composition professor has given you an assignment, requiring you to write an essay in which you identify your favorite book and explain why you like it best. Later she assigns an essay in which you take a stand either for or against homeschooling. Both assignments require you to write a paper, yet the essays called for are in two different genres. Thus, you will need to present your views in two different ways. Two Types of Main Point Although these genres are different, they are similar in that both require your essay to have a main point. In fact, it is crucial that you have a central idea in both types of essay. Neither paper will be successful without it. It’s that important. It is also highly recommended that you present your main idea toward the end of your first paragraph, so readers will know at the onset what point you plan to make in your essay. It also should be around 1-2 sentences long. However, that’s where the similarity ends. As you will see, you need to present a guiding idea when discussing your favorite book; however, when taking a position on the controversial issue of homeschooling, you will have to present your point of view in an argumentative thesis statement. Let’s take a closer look at both ways of presenting the main point of an essay to get a better idea of why and how each is used.    The Guiding Idea Purpose It may seem that papers in which you state your favorite book, relate your most cherished memory, or describe your little sister don’t need a central idea. After all, you aren’t trying to convince anyone to vote for a certain political candidate or to ban smoking in public places. However, without a main point even these types of essays will have no coherence. The guiding idea.
