Enter Your Search Terms to Get Started! My Tutoring Experience nity Service Placement Report My placement site is at Lowrey Middle School, in Ms. Taylor’s 6th and 7th grade life management class. Lowrey School is located at 6601 Jonathan, Dearborn, Mi 48126.This class is mostly a hands on learning experience for students about some of the tasks they will need and use in the future. The classroom is a combination kitchen, and sewing room. The kitchens have most of the equipment a real kitchen at home would have. The sewing room has real sewing machines for all students to sew projects. The teacher’s desk is located in the center in between the two rooms and it is where all of the demonstrations are shown. The classroom gives the students a sense of realism but maintains a learning atmosphere. In the time I am helping Ms.Taylor; I assist her with two classes, a 6th grade class and a more advanced seventh grade class. In each class, there’s an average of twenty four students, surprisingly, there is a very large number of boys in the two classrooms. In the sixth grade class, they learn about such things as sewing by hand, cooking some basic foods, and most importantly, teamwork. In the seventh grade class, students have harder projects, such as sewing on the machine and cooking more difficult foods. In both classes though, teamwork and responsibility are essential to success. By working together, and sharing ideas with the group activities, while each student is assigned a task, they learn responsibility and teamwork. There are 2 types of students, productive and non-productive. Productive students do what is required and non-productive are usually disruptive and non-cooperative. Most of the students are productive, non-productive students are disciplined for their actions. My duties are to assist Ms. Taylor by helping her carry out demonstrations, making sure students.

Positive effects on the tutee: Studies have shown that tutoring sessions help students improve performance on examinations and develop positive attitudes toward the subject matter (Cohen, Kulik, & Kulik, 1982).  My goals as a tutor were to help the students achieve these standards.  Because I tutored only for a short time, results were not really there.  I concentrated more on establishing a peresence in the classroom and hoped to aid them in any questions they had. My tutoring experience in Franklin High School’s math department was a very rewarding experience.  I was assigned to three periods of Mr. Le’s Integrated Math classes that consisted of juniors, sophomores and freshmen.  At first it was very intimidating to step into a classroom full of energetic adolescents.  After getting acquainted with the teacher, students, and procedures, I felt more comfortable in really motivating the students to do their math work.   It was then that I felt that I was a positive presence in the classroom.  Some of the positive effects I hoped to instill in the students during my tutoring experience at Franklin, were to first develop an interpersonal relationship and then help them to become more.

Having been to foreign countries myself, I knew how hard it was to immerse oneself in a foreign culture and speak the native language. I volunteered to teach her, hoping to make assimilation into America a bit easier.Sometimes, it can be a real adventure to teach a foreigner, and other times a great pleasure and cultural experience. For example. I was dumbfounded when she asked the meaning of so. It is a very simple word that most Americans use all the time, but when it comes to explaining it, it is a totally different story. Since I couldn't think of an exact definition, I spent about ten minutes giving her examples of how one uses the word so. Asli gave me a smile of confidence that penetrated deeply into my heart. Now, Asli frequently uses this simple word as well as the other phrases and idioms we have taught her, just like a native English speaker. Helping Asli with her homework, or even explaining some simple grammar can lead to cultural discussions that help both me and her to understand each other's culture and way of.
