India is a vast country. From Kashmir to Kanya Kumari and Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh, crores of people of different races and religions live in different parts of the country. They speak different languages, have different customs and put on different dresses, yet they are one. They are all Indians. They are one nation. India is famous for its rich tradition of dance and music. In both dance and music there are two types called folk and classical. Different classical dances were born in different parts of India. Bharat Natyam comes from Tamil Nadu.Ka/ha/ca// comes from Kerala, Kathak from Northern India, Kuchipudi from Andhra Pradesh, Manipuri from Manipur and Odissi from Orissa. Folk dances are much simpler. They are performed by villagers after their day's work is done. Folk dances are mostly based around the seasons. Some of the well-known folk dances are Bhangra from Punjab, Garba from Gujarat, Chhau from Bihar, Ghumar from Rajasthan and Bamboo from Nagaland. Folk music is popular all over India. People sing folk songs on the occasion of a marriage. Folk singers move from village to village and sing ballads. A ballad is a story of brave heroes. They sing them during fairs and festivals. Classical music has its roots in the past. It has mainly two styles — the Hindustani style and the Carnatic style. -The former is popular in the from Nagaland. North, West and East, while the latter is popular in Orissa and Southern India. Both the styles are based on Ragas, Different ragos are sung at different times and on different occasions. Tansen, Haridas, Baiju Bawra and Meero Bai were great singers of India. Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan are followers of Hindustani music while M.S. Subbulakshmi has popularised Carnatic music. Instrumental music is very popular in India. We have our own different types of musical instruments like flufe, shehnai, sitar, sarongi.
What Does Dance Mean to Me? When I wake up on a Friday morning. All I can think about is, not school that I have to face but that at exactly 3:30 I will walk into the exact same hall that built my confidence. I have been dancing since the age of 5. When I was 5 I saw a leaflet in a local supermarket which advertised Tap Dancing. I have been Dancing Ever since, as I got older I decided I wanted to take up another style of dance so I started jazz. Ever since the day I started I have changed. My confidence levels have increased and I have become wiser and stronger as a person. When I step out onto the dance floor I imagine myself standing in front of my friends and family about to perform. When I dance I feel like a different person, all of my problems disappear. When I dance I feel like I’m in my own sort of bubble, all my worries slip away. I would be a totally different person if I did not dance. I can’t put into words how much dance means to me it lets me express my true personality without feeling nervous or judged. I have always wanted to start yet another style of dance I have many styles that I would like to try, such as Ballet, Lyrical and Contemporary. Ballet dancers move so elegantly and beautifully, I have always wanted to have the standard of technique that the ballet dancers have. Lyrical dancers are so different they use so many Moves and techniques to tell a story; whenever I see a lyrical dancer I fall in love with their elegance. Contemporary dancers use so many unique and modern dance moves which helps me to see the modernisation of dance. If I got the scholarship for a year of a free dance class I would be beyond happy! Dancing means so much to me and to expand my knowledge and love for dance would be fantastic. Dancing is a big part of my life I do not know where I would be without it! Haddington School of dance and music has made me feel so.
What kind of music do you listen too? Jazz, Rock, Rap, Hip-Hop, Gospel, Country? All of these are quite popular here in the United States and THE WORLD. but there is another form of music that you may not know much about that kids our age are dancing too: The sources I found for this presentation come mainly from online articles found through Lexis Nexis, one book from a former Recording Industry class, a brief interview with a prestigious expert, and my experience as a techno DJ and enthusiast. As generally accepted the official music form of techno was created in Detroit, Michigan by 3 DJ/Producers. These men, Kevin Saunderson, Derick May, and Juan Atkins were influenced and continued the sounds of 70's Disco into the early 80's. With their use of sequencer and sampler machines, the Techno style they started flourished into Europe. In this presentation I use the Term Techno broadly to describe the major forms of Electronic Music. The three major forms of Electronic Music are House, Trance, and D'n'B. House Music was created in the early to mid-eighties by a DJ/Producer named Frankie Knuckles in Chicago, Illinois. This was new knowledge for me which I learned from a book called Repeated Takes by Michael Chanan. Frankie Knuckles found he could take common disco/dance beats, samples, and strong female vocals to create pleasing club songs. House music quickly took off in the club scene especially in the dance clubs in Chicago, New York City, and LA. House Music was named after the ware'houses' that Frankie Knuckles and other DJ's often held huge parties at. House is usually 115 -135 BPM. BPM is Beats Per Minute. Just to give you a basis: Hip-Hop and rap are usually around 85-105 BPM. Trance Music the second major genre is a little harder to originate. Trance is definitely the continuation of the Detroit Techno sound which flourished into Europe. England and Germany.
Music plays an important role in today's culture. Whether you're driving in your car, watching a movie, or are at a sporting event, music is all around you. It pleases your emotions, soothes your soul and takes away all the worries in the world. But it's not just one type of music that has this effect on everybody. In fact, there is an indefinite amount of genres of music. (The amount depends on how one classifies the music). Throughout this paper I will tell of different genres of music in today's American culture and give a thorough description of each. The first genre, and probably most well known, is Rock & Pop. Most of a record company's income would come from this genre. Rock is a form of dance music originating around the 1950's, and is a blend of rhythm and blues with country and western. Electric guitars, vocals, an electric bass and a drum set consisting of a snare drum, a bass drum, tom-toms, a hi-hat cymbal, a ride and a crash cymbal usually comprise the sound of Rock, but a keyboard and a piano can also fall into this category. There is many different subdivisions of Rock, for instance there's Punk Rock, Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Surf Rock, etc. Pop usually appeals to younger people due to its' catchy and simple music, but it plays quite the significant role in today's culture. Next is Opera music. Opera is drama set to music. Around 1600, it originated in Italy and has been spread throughout many countries. In late history, Opera was originally composed and performed for the upper-class society, whereas in today's society, it can be enjoyed by anybody. Jazz is the next category. Jazz is an American tradition. It's categorized by its strong but flexible rhythm with solo and group improvisations on basic tunes. To sum it all up, you can call it big band dance music. Jazz originated in New Orleans around the turn of the 20th century and since then has.
