How is a stranger on the internet going to help you--we have no idea who you are, what color you are, what you do. It's basically asking how you are unique. What is different about you? What is your family like? What was special or different about your upbringing? What did you study that gives you unique perspective? Come up with these things, then add a paragraph or two about how these things will make you a better doctor. Bam.done. examples: Are you popular in middle/high/college? Experienced multiple relationships with the opposite gender? Spin it in a positive way, like you look forward to change, and don't like a stagnant life. Were you good at sports? If so, you can spin it as saying you practiced hard (even if you were just born with good genes), your dedication led to your success. Were you ever in trouble? How did you get out of trouble? AN EXAMINATION OF THE INDIVIDUAL AND STRUCTURAL CAUSES OF HOMELESSNESS by Kimberly Winslow back to top Since the 1970s, homelessness has increased at alarming rates. In the early 1980s, the most accurate estimate for the total homeless population in the United States was three million (Takahashi 1996: 293). In the late 1990s, the homeless population was approximately 26 million (Takahashi 1996: 293). The homeless population has not only grown considerably during the past three decades, but it has also dispersed beyond the inner city (Takahashi 1996: 291). Studies have struggled with attempts to learn more about this vulnerable population. Policies were put in place by the government to set up shelters to provide food and lodgings for the homeless. However, the current system of shelters and services provided to the homeless are highly privatized and organization is decentralized. Funding issues arise in every city trying to deal with this societal problem, restricting the services available. For the purpose of this study, homelessness is defined as an individual’s or family’s lack of housing on any given night, or multiple days spent without shelter (either on the streets or in emergency shelters). Research regarding the causes of homelessness is split between two theories. One theory is that individual’s personal problems cause them to be unable to keep housing, leading them to lives on the streets. The other theory is that societal, structural causes are at work. A multitude.
1) In this age of ours, when men are drawing more closely together and the bonds of friendship between different people are being strengthened, the Church examines with greater care the relation which she has to non-Christian religions. Ever aware of her duty to foster unity and charity among individuals, and even among nations, she reflects at the outset on what men have in common and what tends to promote fellowship among them. All men form but one community. This is so because all stem from the one stock which God created to people the entire earth (cf. Acts 17:26), and also because all share a common destiny, namely God. His providence, evident goodness, and saving designs extend to all men (cf. Wis. 8:1; Acts 14:17; Rom. 2:6-7; 1 Tim. 2:4) against the day when the elect are gathered together in the holy city which is illumined by the glory of God, and in whose splendor all people will walk (cf. Apoc. 21:23 ff.). Men look to their different religions for an answer to the unsolved riddles of human existence. The problems that weigh heavily on the hearts of men are the same today as in the ages past. What is man? What is the meaning and purpose of life? What is upright behavior, and what is sinful? Where does suffering originate, and what end does it serve? How can genuine happiness be found? What happens at death? What is judgment? What reward follows death? And finally, what is the ultimate mystery, beyond human existence, from which we take our origin and towards which we tend? 2) Throughout history even to the present day, there is found among different people a certain awareness of a hidden power, which lies behind the course of nature and the events of human life. At times there is present even a recognition of a supreme being, or still more of a Father. This awareness and recognition results in a way of life that is imbued with a deep religious sense. The.
