In addition to one-on-one writing appointments, the Graduate Writing Center has a number of programs and workshops that offer support to dissertators and thesis writers. Summer Dissertation Boot Camps. The Graduate Writing Center holds a number of programs during the summer to help graduate students who are at the dissertation and dissertation proposal stages. The programs meet once a week for 2.5 hours during either Summer Session A or Summer Session C. For a description of the upcoming summer dissertation boot camp and program offerings, click here. Master's Thesis Writing Program. The Graduate Writing Center offers a program to graduate students writing master's theses and doctoral qualifying papers in the humanities and social sciences. The program combines workshops and one-on-one writing appointments. For more information, click here. Writing Groups. The Graduate Writing Center has previously organized two types of writing groups: facilitated writing groups and independent writing groups. The groups facilitated by Graduate Writing Center staff are offered spring and sometimes summer, primarily for graduate students writing master's theses or similar projects. The independent writing groups are organized in winter for graduate students at the dissertation writing stage. For more information, click here. Writing Retreats. Register now! Many highly-successful MBI graduates have made the leap from academia to industry. Nevertheless, the world of biotech, and the drug discovery pipeline in particular, can be a mystery to students as they consider their career options. The MBI is working with researchers at Amgen to illuminate the process by which new drug targets are identified, drugs tested and brought to market. This 5-day workshop, lead by Amgen researchers, will cover key aspects of the drug discovery process, including: Identifying therapeutic targets Increasing efficacy and safety Process development, devices and manufacturing Case studies from bench to clinic The workshop will culminate with a site-visit to the Amgen campus in Thousand Oaks. Space is limited! Preference will be given to MBIDP students who have Advanced-to-Candidacy and postdocs in the lab of MBI members. Registrants who attend all 4 days of the workshop at UCLA will take precedence on the Amgen site visit. 8:46 a.m., Feb. 22, 2016--In response to graduate students’ requests for additional intensive writing support, the University of Delaware College of Arts and Sciences is partnering with the University Writing Center to host a Dissertation Boot Camp during spring break, March 28-April 1. Sessions will meet from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. In these workshop-retreats participants spend the majority of their time writing. The sessions also include brief discussions on topics of common interest to dissertation students, such as motivation, goal setting, time management, and the writing habits of successful and prolific academic writers. The University Writing Center provides time, space, and professional support to help students progress on their projects. Lunch is also being provided. Those who have previously participated in a dissertation boot camp at the University of Delaware are also welcome to apply.
