descriptive essay on a person you admire

My brother was courageous for coming out 1st Place Author’s name withheld Illustration by Andrea Perez, 17, Bravo Medical Magnet HS Growing up I never had a hero. I always thought it was a bogus idea to look up to someone when they haven’t done anything to actually gain your respect. I always thought that there was no one who I would admire in my life. The reasons being because everywhere you look people are shallow, they never think of others. But in recent years I’ve actually found a hero, someone who I can admire with my heart and be proud to say he’s who I admire. That person is my brother. I have three brothers. I could lie and say they were always caring but I won’t. Growing up, most times they were harsh. I never had anyone to play with me or have a conversation with. They always looked down on me since I was the youngest. Since the biggest age gap was between me and them, sometimes they would take time to talk to me but most times they were off in their own world. But all of them had their good traits and the one I most admire is my second-oldest brother. Like me he is gay, and he’s gone through so much more than I have. Coming out for him was the hardest. My mom and dad did not know how to deal with it. So they hit him. They thought the solution was beating the gay out of him and treating him harshly. Yet he didn’t back down and he kept true to who he was. I remember going to church and keeping him as the secret of the family. I could only imagine how he could feel being the black sheep of the family— staining our family. He also came out when most people didn’t accept homosexuals, saying they were a mistake of God and that they needed to die. I remember one day I was young and he came up to me in my room and said, “If you ever come out just know that it’s going to be easier for you. I cleared the way for you so it’ll be easier.” I guess he meant with my.
Welcome to week 3 of this semester and your second writing assignment. I hope you all enjoyed writing and reading the last assignment. If you did not get your text corrected by someone please let me know. No texts should go uncorrected! This week we will tturn our attention to another useful device used in both fiction and non-fiction, the descriptive technique. As we learned, narrative paragraphs describe a sequence of events or tell a story. The logical arrangement of ideas and sentences in a narrative paragraph is chronological - according to time order. But what if you were asked to describe how something looks - a place, a thing, or a person? How should you arrange your ideas and sentences in the paragraph? Obviously, time order would not be logical. When you are describing the way something looks - its physical appearance - it is not time but space that is important. Therefore, you should arrange your sentences and details according to where the objects being described are located. This type of organization is called spatial organization. In a descriptive paragraph, you must make the location of the objects being described very clear. As literary students you may be asked to relate the role a character plays in a novel or as design students you may be asked to relate the role a person plays in a successful design, as a designer for instance. But how would you describe a person and their role? Depending on the subject or assignment, you could describe the person's physical appearance, behaviour, inner thoughts or the influence the person had on you or others. A person's appearance can be described in many ways. It is possible to tell about the person's style of clothing, manner of walking, colour and style of hair, facial appearance, body shape, and expression or even the person's way of talking. Just what a writer selects to describe depends on the writer's.
Livia Petto If I need help with a specific matter, I know that Livia is always there to help me. We have been great friends ever since second grade and I am happy that we are friends today. I look up to her in many ways. I admire the smile she always has glued to her face and her generosity with people. At any time of the day, you can spot Livia smiling and helping others, which is what I admire most about her. She is a very energetic person and amazing at whatever she does or tries. No one can forget her unique way of doing things. Livia is a fairly tall girl. She measures about 1.70 meters which makes her the tallest girl in the class. Her brownish blondish hair comes curling down a bit further than her neck. Her oval face is perfect making all her facial features have a special place in it. Her half moon brown eyes are covered by a pair of elegant, black glasses. Her triangular nose fits really well in her face. Livia’s lips are light pink colored and filled making them very unique. Livia’s body is gorgeous and so are the clothes that she wears. She is also lanky and she wears striped clothes which she adores she looks just like a princess out of a fairy tale. Livia is the only person I know that no matter what is always smiling and enjoying life every single second of it. A spontaneous energetic girl like Livia is the perfect energy for a sad day. She always has a way to cheer anyone up. Her unique ways are weird but they do wok. My favorite one, and the one most people prefer is when she makes those weird funny accents and those hilarious faces which would make even Grumpy laugh. I am happy that whenever I have a frown, Livia is always there to turn it upside down and magically make it a huge smile. I’m glad that Livia and I share a friendship that is hard to destroy. As hard as it might be to admit I cut myself last year. When I think about it, I realize that.

When asked whom I most admire in this world, I do not need to look at large political figures, or athletes, nor anyone else society sets so high above the rest of us. For me, the person I admire most is much closer to home. All of us have individuals whom we think of as greatly influential, and inspirational and in my opinion, my father is a shining example of both.               hold my Father dear to my heart, and demand the praise of most admired.                There is nothing spectacular at his appearance though. He is a middle-aged, tall and well-built man. He has a tanned complexion, with some wrinkles here and there, the only ones that make it more difficult for him to defy his age. He has two of the warmest and gentle brown eyes that I have ever seen and which, as the saying goes, are “the mirror of the soul”. He has thin lips, which can sometimes be cracked, as a sign of the level of stress he experiences everyday at work.                 However, behind his physical appearance he is a very admirable and alluring person. At first, he may seem as a cold and blunt person, as he doesn’t open up or show his true feelings to everyone. Still, on better acquaintance, after someone gets to know the true depths of his thoughts and character, he turns out to be a deeply-caring, warm-hearted and intelligent person. The thing I mostly appreciate at him is his strength that seems to be unbreakable during hard times and also that he is extremely determined to accomplish anything he sets his mind on. I even hold great esteem for how he stands up for what he believes in, and will never back down, no matter the hardships he has to face.                 My father is a man who has some strong beliefs and from whom I have learnt many           things of a high importance. For instance, he believes that the people around you are the people you choose and that’s why he insisted.
Choosing a Topic for the Descriptive Essay If you’re not sure what to write about, consider the following descriptive essay topics. A Person of Importance to You A Significant Place A Memory A Precious Object A Frightening Place An Intimidating Person The Best Season of the Year A Person You Admire A Summer Vacation A Wedding Ceremony Before Writing, Ask Yourself Why Before you can even begin writing the descriptive essay, you need to have a clear idea why you are writing it. Was it a life-changing event? Was it something that was truly memorable? Did it happen frequently? If you have no idea why this essay is interesting, your reader wont either. After establishing why, ask yourself which qualities or attributes of the person, place, or thing you want to focus on. Picking the Qualities Once you’ve chosen your topic, sit down and think carefully about what you what to describe in your essay and how you’re going to go about it. Let’s say that your chosen topic is “My Summer in Poland.” Pick out the general details about your summer in Poland that you’ll write about in your essay: For Example: Warsaw Lazienki Park Summer Chopin Concert Series Vistula River Palace of Culture and Science Stary Miasto After this add more specific details White blossoms covering the streets at the beginning of June Sunday afternoons listening to pianists play Chopin in Lazienki Park Seeing the surrounding hills of Mazovia from the top of the Palace of Culture and Science. Wandering the old twisting streets of Stary Miasto Spending summer afternoons laying in the sun on the banks of the Vistula River Sounds of church bells and people singing on Sunday mornings Processions of children and banners on Corpus Christi Once you’ve done this, you can very clearly see which details and senses you will utilize the most in your work. With the above example, the senses that will be used are sight.
